Green Marine showcased in Stromness Museum’s Renewable Energy Exhibition

Green Marine is being featured in Stromness Museum’s new exhibition “Powered by People: Orkney’s Renewable Energy Story”.

This exhibition running until April 2026 celebrates Orkney’s pioneering role in renewable energy development, highlighting the innovation, collaboration, and community effort driving sustainable transformation in the region.

Supported by a coalition of key industry partners – including Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks Transmission, Siemens Energy, BAM, OREF (Orkney Renewable Energy Forum), Transects, and ORE Ltd – involvement reflects the wide-reaching collaboration between public and private sectors in advancing renewable energy solutions.

Green Marine’s vessels have become ubiquitous around the Orkney coastline with a long-standing track record delivering complex marine operations and engineering support. The firm is currently a key partner in the €19 million WEDUSEA project – Europe’s most ambitious wave energy demonstration to date, involving deployment at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Orkney.

It marks another milestone in a marine energy journey lasting more than a decade including support for breakthrough technologies from CorPower Ocean, Orbital Marine Power, AWS, SME, Pelamis, and others.

The firm’s renewables portfolio also includes extensive work in the offshore wind sector, delivering contracts for the world’s largest offshore windfarm, Dogger Bank, and the world’s largest floating offshore windfarm, Kincardine. Further projects have involved Moray East in the North Sea, Triton Knoll off the Lincolnshire coast and Greater Gabbard near Suffolk. In addition, Green Marine has supported a number of offshore windfarm sites currently under construction and development, including the Neart Na Gaoithe, West of Orkney, Inch Cape, MachairWind, Caledonia, Muir Mhòr, Pentland, and Salamander.

To mark the exhibition’s opening, Stromness Museum is hosting a private viewing event on Thursday 15 May at its Alfred Street location. The evening promises an early look at the displays and an opportunity to engage with individuals and organizations at the forefront of green innovation.

Accredited by Museums Galleries Scotland, Stromness Museum continues to play a vital role in documenting Orkney’s unique heritage and contemporary achievements. The Powered by People exhibition is not just a celebration of technical progress—it’s a testament to community commitment and the power of people to shape a sustainable future.
